Talking and communicating with other people keeps the mind active, working the memory and stimulating emotions. Having regular phone calls, volunteering, or joining a club or community group are great ways to stay socially active.

Studies have shown that engagement with socially rewarding and fulfilling activities increases neural connections in the brain and protects against cognitive decline and improves emotional wellbeing. Social interactions involve the use of different brain functions such as the use of language, problem solving and active listening, all of which are essential for improved cognitive and memory functioning.
